Early Mornings, Early Fall
Labor Day may mark the unofficial start of fall, but summer hangs on for dear life here in Northern California, with the temperature topping 90 degrees all but one day since September 3rd. I’m ready to break out the tweed and flannel, but have instead been finding myself wearing linen and cotton.
Early mornings are already hinting at autumn though, with the air crisp and cool. I’ve had a couple occasions lately where I needed to be up and about while most people are still asleep, including a pre-dawn airport drop-off. This is what I wore to catch the sunrise—simple, casual, but put together.
Save Khaki Shawl Cardigan: I owe Derek one for pointing me to this when I mentioned a few months ago that I was on the look out for a navy chunky shawl cardigan. Turns out, LAS also endorsed this cardigan back in the day (single tear for Sart Inc.). 100% Merino wool with ribbed cuffs and hem, it’s thick and warm but fits slim. The wool keeps its shape better than cotton, and I like how the besom pockets don’t droop like the patch pockets found on many cardigans. I’m definitely looking forward to getting a lot of wear out of this sweater over the next few months.
3Sixteen SL-BNY1 Jeans: My first foray into high-end denim, these are from a limited edition collaboration between Barney’s CO-OP and 3Sixteen. I stumbled on them a few months ago on deep discount on barneys.com, but haven’t had much opportunity to wear them given the hot, hot summer. This particular model is sold out, but the fit is identical to the more common and well-regarded 3Sixteen SL-100x.
