Given my last post, it should be no surprise that one of my favorite new shirts this spring is this light blue stripe oxford from Brooks Brothers.
Unlike Brooks Brothers’ other Extra-Slim Fit oxfords, this shirt doesn’t have a box pleat in the back, so it seems to fit slightly trimmer. It also features a shorter collar—kind of disappointing, but not a deal-breaker for me since I don’t expect to wear it with a tie. Oddly, the product description mentions a button on the back of the collar, but my shirt doesn’t have one.
The oxford cloth used for the shirt is a lightweight weave—part of the BrooksCool line—and the light blue stripes are considerably fainter than the navy or royal one usually sees with university stripe oxfords. This effectively renders the shirt icy blue from a distance, and in some light it even appears to be a shimmery white. It’s a great-looking fabric, and I would definitely pick up a few more shirts if Brooks Brothers offered it with a more collar options. Until then, I’m happy with just one.
