On the topic of shoes: could you please recommend a sub-$200 Derby or Oxford that has great support for someone doing a lot of standing and walking at work? As a corollary, would someone do well to invest in a better constructed--albeit more expensive--shoe, presuming that these shoes may have better support? Do construction and material only go so far - making for great looking shoes that are comfortable for desk work but not 12-hour hospital shifts? Looking forward to your reply. Best, G.
I answered:
I’ve never had comfort issues with my better-constructed shoes (Alfred Sargent, Allen Edmonds), but I don’t stand and walk for 12 hours, either.
Only makes I can think of are Rockport and Cole Haan, which I believe have models featuring athletic shoe technology from their parent companies (Reebok and Nike, respectively). But neither brand is recommended for well-made shoes anymore.
