Assuming I want to invest little to no money in this, should I try to reproduce my favorite look from AMI’s F/W lookbook, or just buy a red watch cap and call it a day?

I would go with trying to reproduce your favorite look. Go to a Thrift Store and see what you can find. Number 2 should be pretty do-able.
